Who can sign up to get a service dog?
Canines for Service provides highly trained service dogs at no cost or fundraising requirement to Veterans from all conflicts, nationwide, with service-connected mobility limitations, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Military Sexual Trauma.
How much does it cost for the vet to get a dog?
There is no cost or fundraising requirement for a Veteran to receive a service dog.
What kind of service dogs are offered?
Service dogs trained to assist with PTSD, MST, TBI and mobility limitations.
How long does it take to get the new service dog?
Once the Veteran application is submitted and approved by the Canines for Service Review Board, the wait may be up to 2 years. Service dogs are partnered not on a first-come-first-served basis, rather understanding the Veterans needs and identifying the dogs' to create the most successful outcome.
Where does the organization get the animals to train?
Canines for Service has partnerships with reputable groups and as part of the Assistance Dogs International North American Breeding Cooperative. The purpose-bred puppies from this program have outstanding genetic composition, with breeder dogs are specifically chosen based on temperament, physical confirmation, health clearances, and willingness to learn and serve.
