What makes the organization unique?

House in the Woods offers various hunting, fishing, and recreational programs throughout the year for active military, veterans, and their family members, in the great wilderness of Maine. All food and lodging is provided at NO COST to the participants.

Now more than ever, veterans are facing unprecedented levels of both collective and individual stress.

The great news is that here in Maine, and across the country, veterans suffering from PTSD, TBI and other combat-related injuries can find healing not just in medicines, but in being part of organizations like House in the Woods where they can find natural ways to reduce anxiety, lower adrenaline and blood pressure, and increase positive emotions, simply by spending time in the great outdoors, with their fellow military brothers and sisters.

What kind of activities are offered?

Canoeing, kayaking, hiking, hunting, fishing, nature tours, campfires, swimming, wildlife identification and spotting, and other natural Eastern Maine resource “treasures” God has given our beautiful state to enjoy.
