From holistic modalities and outdoor activities, to live music and locally sourced foods, focus on relaxation while building positive, and healthy friendships. More information: **Our [main] retreats are "weekend retreats," and they are either male or female, never co-ed, OR a couples retreat, where a veteran and their support person (spouse, partner, caregiver, etc) would come as a couple and have a cabin to themselves. During the male only or female only retreats, veterans are assigned cabins upon arrival to camp, and even though there's space for 12 veterans per cabin, we typically keep it to 4-6 or fewer. ***These [sailing] retreats are reserved for [1]combat veterans who have [2] attended a weekend retreat at either A Soldier's Heart, Bluegrass & Muddy Waters [Benton/Marshall County, KY] OR, our sister organization, Camp Brown Bear USA [Frankfort/ Franklin County, KY]. Attending a weekend retreat prior to a sailing retreat is a NON-NEGOTIABLE and it serves many purposes for the organization as well as for the individual veteran. Sailing retreats are NEVER co-ed; however, we ONLY have male captains and caretakers. Also, we DO NOT currently offer couples retreats as a part of our sailing retreat program. More information regarding all retreats: ****Veterans attending 1-day and weekend retreats are responsible for their own travel costs to and from any locations or events. Veterans attending sailing retreats will have the option to be reimbursed for travel, up to a certain amount, UPON COMPLETION of the retreat AND with proper documentation (proof of receipts / purchase). Reimbursement comes in the form of a check. *****Acceptance of retreat applications for all retreats is based on several variables, the 2 most important are: *First, does this veteran qualify to attend (1 day & weekend retreats: if a veteran served in any branch of the US military, they qualify; also, active duty personnel qualify. For sailing retreats: only combat veterans and active duty service members that have served in combat will qualify) *Second, our acceptances are based on a first-come, first-serve basis. If a retreat roster fills up, admins will reach out and let veterans know they're on standby. If anyone cancels before the retreat kicks off (life happens), then admins will reach out to the waiting list. Who can sign up to participate: Depending on the retreat... usually any veteran. Sailing retreats are reserved for combat veterans. How Much Does It Cost?: Free. What kind of activities are offered? *Camping (tent and cabin stays) *Hiking *Kayaking/ canoeing/ other low-exertion water activities *Fishing *Yoga *Sound bath (typically incorporates with yoga sessions) *Fossil/geological hunts led by an expert! *Guided art/craft therapy *Guided Journaling *Live music (usually acoustic during retreats) *All meals during retreats are provided.
