Who can sign up to participate: All veterans, active duty and family members Team River Runner (TRR) is more than an adaptive sports program; it is an opportunity for veterans, their family members, and everyone in the community to participate It’s an opportunity to enjoy nature and realize its social, physical, and emotional benefits, whether it’s tackling whitewater rapids or paddling on peaceful flat-water. It’s an environment that facilitates connection, allowing veterans to reunite with their families and forge relationships with those who have endured similar pain. TRR creates purpose and community service. These Veterans are on the river to recovery. How Much Does It Cost?: Free. TRR provides all boats, outfitting, safety gear, instruction, transportation, food, and lodging for the participants and the volunteers through the generosity of their donors and the subsidies from their providers. What kind of activities are offered? Sea kayaking, Flatwater paddling, Stand up paddle boarding, Whitewater paddling, and rafting throughout the year. How Long Do The Activities Last?: Holds regular pool or open water sessions of approximately 2-3 hours each. Some sites offer multiple sessions per week; Has a quarterly local trip and twice a year family days; Encourages qualified paddlers from any site to participate in the national trips offered to Colorado, Idaho and the Caribbean. Our approach centers on healing through a clinical trauma counseling retreat that combines evidence-based therapy, scuba diving as an alternative healing practice, and spiritual guidance. He brings extensive experience and expertise in treating PTSD and other trauma-related diagnoses. Chad offers a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, providing veterans with the compassionate medication support they need. A referral is required, and our agency is here to assist veterans in obtaining the necessary referral. Individual/Family Therapy: Veterans and their families can participate in mental health sessions that provide trauma-focused equine-assisted psychotherapy, EMDR, and Equine Connected-EMDR. Who can sign up to participate: Leg Up Farm is proud to offer equine-assisted psychotherapy for veterans and first responders, helping them work towards a renewed sense of self, developing trust and rebuilding relationships, finding a connection to others, promoting relaxation and improving communication skills. How Much Does It Cost?: FREE or highly subsidized. Many of the group equine-assisted psychotherapy programs are complimentary for Veterans. For individual sessions or to include family members of the veteran there are complimentary sessions that we offer through funding. They also, offer financial assistance to subsidize what the person can afford since insurances do not accept equine therapy as a form of therapy despite its evidence based benefits. What kind of activities are offered? Equine therapy For Veterans, have PTSD/EAP group opportunities as well as traditional talk therapy counseling. They have certified equine and mental health professionals who work with each Veteran to provide tools to help manage conditions that a Veteran may be experiencing. All activities are unmounted and do not require equine experience. Sportable has created opportunities and transformed the lives of individuals with physical disabilities and visual impairments through sport since 2005. The only adaptive sports club in Central Virginia and one of the top Paralympic sport clubs in the country, Sportable provides sporting opportunities to more than 400 athletes each year by offering a variety of competitive and recreational adaptive sports programs. The athletes are all ages, come from different backgrounds, and have varying abilities. By fostering a fun, inclusive, competitive, and accessible environment, and transform the lives of the athletes and free them to see beyond their disability, enhance their peer relationships and help them to reach their personal finish line.
